Higashirokugo Elementary School 2

[School and the Earthquake Disaster]
After the tsunami ebbed away, I took on the management of the evacuation center. For the more than 400 people who took refuge there, stockpiles were desperately short. Around 6pm, near the end of the school yard, I saw people in a car which had drifted from Yuriage, but we were not able to get to them to help because of the water.
The next morning, we burned firewood on the roof to help keep us warm. The Self Defense Force and Fukui prefectural police then arrived at the school and began the rescue work.
