Voice in NATORI – Thirties,Male,Office Worker, Yuriage –

Real Voices of Reconstruction
"What I'm hoping is that the town and everything will be get back to normal. I mean, calm and serene,"
Four months and several days after the tsunami, the man in his thirties (office worker) responded cheerfully.
Yuriage, about a 30-minute drive from downtown Sendai, is rich in nature, as it is located where the river joins the sea. Before the disaster, it wasn't just a place for suburban houses with gardens. It was also a vigorous port town, where people had thrived and lived together since the Edo period (1603-1868).
More than 80% of the houses in the town have been judged as completely destroyed, and the debris has been cleared away quickly. The result is that the once-inhabited area has become vacant.
The man, who has just moved into temporary housing from an evacuation center, seems to have started mapping out his future.
