“DIY Community Archives: A chronicle of sendai mediatheque ‘center for remembering 3.11’”
(available in Japanese only)

On May 3, 2011, to face, think about, and begin the long road toward recovery after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the “center for remembering 3.11” (known as recorder311) was established. With what kind of processes was it launched, who became involved, and what know-how, achievements, and challenges were gained there?

This book—Japan’s first guidebook on methodology for grassroots, participatory “community archives” rooted in local areas—is intended for those who are, not limited to disaster context, interested in local history and the past, and who conduct research, interviews, record, preserve, and make use of such materials.

First edition published on January 30, 2018
