Overturned Buildings
What shocked me in Onagawa was that reinforced concrete buildings had been overturned. I can see how the tsunami could sweep away wooden houses, but it is beyond imagination how three- or four-story reinforced concrete buildings could be overturned and swept away. Even if you flee to a higher floor of a nearby building when a tsunami strikes, the building itself could collapse or be carried away.
