Plants Growing Roots in Sand Carried by the Tsunami
What caught my eye when I arrived at the Seaside Park were plants growing all over the field. Although the cleanup work has been making progress inside the park, there were still places untouched when we visited in early July. We saw a lot of plants growing in soil brought by the tsunami.
These plants have shot out buds from the soil that was left on the stone pavement. Is the soil left by the tsunami nutrient-rich? I heard that there are rice paddies where even weeds do not grow due to salt damage, but it seems that the soil condition is not so bad here.
