[Mountain and Work] White Charcoal in Shichikashuku
Cutting Down Trees
[Part 1] In September when it was still hot, I visited the house of Mitsuo Sato in Shichikashuku for the first time. In 1994, he met Ishitaro Sato, his charcoal burning teacher, and moved to this town.
This is a record of the work of Mitsuo Sato who makes white charcoal in Shichikashuku, a town that is rich in nature and located in the southern part of Miyagi prefecture. Here Mitsuo Sato builds his future life with his children following the earthquake in 2011.
Charcoal burners repeat the cycle of cutting down trees from mountains and burning charcoal every day. On this day, he fells trees on a nearby mountain.
