Ryutoe (Lantern-Floating Ceremony)
Lantern floating in Arahama, Wakabayashi-ku, Sendai
"Ryutoe" was held at Teizan Canal in Arahama, Wakabayashi-ku, Sendai on August 20, 2011, five months after the earthquake. Lanterns inscribed with personal messages were sent floating down the canal in peace.
*Toro Nagashi: Ceremony in which small lanterns are lit and floated down a river or sea to send off the spirits of the deceased.
